I Won, I Won, I Won!
Tonight I played the HHPT Ladies' Event for the Aruba Open in May. I won the whole Package! I am so excited! Can't wait for May. This was the first time that I actually put money into a Poker Site. I figured that I would be willing to spend $33 for a chance at an Aruba vacation and a tournament, to boot! It seems that I am completely following the direction that I hopped on at the beginning of this month. Now, my next step on this journey is to finally do that video to become the ambassador for the High Heels Poker Tour. I am so ready!
Poker News
I am trying out to be the ambassador for the High Heels Poker tour in California! I have to make a video and tell why I think I would be a good representative. All in two minutes! Well, I am going to do it, and I will be so proud to wear their logo everywhere I go!

High Heels Poker Tour
The greatest thing I ever did to improve my game and become a more involved poker player was to join the High Heels Poker Tour online last year. I found out about their Academy that would be running in April, the day before the Women's Tournament of the WSOP in Las Vegas! It was the best! All of the people are so kind go out of their way to accommodate all of the women who had signed up. The speakers were all top poker players with a wealth of knowledge to impart to all of us there. The practical portion of the session was an interesting learning experience. I learned about a strange 'tell' that I have (of course, I won't be mentioning it here) and many other things about my play. But the thing I took away from that group of women was the happiness I felt, the belonging that I felt, and the encouragement that I felt. The day after the Academy we had a tournament at the Hard Rock Hotel. The winner would receive the buy-in for the WSOP Women's Tournament the next day. I came in SECOND! I even went and bought in for the tournament and had the time of my life! I can not thank them enough for putting me on this new direction in my life. Thank you High Heels Poker Tour. Thank you Lauren!

Martin Luther King Junior Day
Today I saw Ryan Seacrest's Tweet: "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." - Martin Luther King, Jr." And to that beautiful sentiment I repeat these words: "At the center of non-violence stands the principle of love." -Martin Luther King, Jr.
Now, totally off topic, I want to tell every poker player out there that I was thoroughly pleased by the live coverage from the PCA final table. I finished watching it last night. Congratulations to Galen Hall. Very well deserved! Loved his patient, unemotional play. Also, congratulations go to Poker Stars for having the insight to bring the very first live broadcast of a major tournament, where we see every hand. Daniel Negreanu and James Hartigan worked well together and managed to keep up the enthusiasm to the very end. I certainly learned a lot just watching it and listening to Daniels commentary on the play by play.
Kudos!

Women in Poker

I am a woman in Poker! In my other life I was a Physician Assistant in a Hepatology Department, charged with the care of all of the patients with Hepatitis C. I am an intelligent woman (not a girl, by any means), strong, educated and forging forward in this new chapter of my life. I am appalled by how the majority of the internet poker sites portray women poker players. If they are indeed attempting to bring their female counterpart into the fold, and increase their profits, they should find a less demeaning way to do it. Today I found a wonderful article by F-Train. Here, here! Please read the article here:
One woman in poker that is an inspiration to me is Annie Duke. I read her blogs regularly.
Here is a picture of her at one of her many charity tournaments. She really knows how to give back!

Here I go into 2011!
I am beginning this year by starting a blog about the one thing that I am passionate about, poker! I play it, I watch it, I read about it, I Tweet about it and I FB about it. This is the year that I am going to get very serious and do something with it. As I learn more about what is going on in the poker world, I would love for all of you to follow along and give me some insight into your own paths down this road! I have been playing freerolls on the internet and playing some charity tournaments. I even played in the WSOP Women's Tournament of 2010. But, now I want to take my play to the next level. I want to play online for money and get involved in some important tournaments here in L.A. and in Vegas. I am ready to do this thing!
